EFT for Migraines…

Migraine headaches are always painful and sometimes completely debilitating. Many migraine sufferers spend several days unable to work or even stay in an upright position. Migraines can return often, effectively stealing your precious time and robbing you of happiness. Sometimes the cause is physical, such as when we become dehydrated. Often the cause is an emotional blockage or past trauma. EFT tapping is an “evidence-based” treatment to help with physical pain and with emotional blockages, therefore EFT tapping can help relieve and even eliminate migraine headaches. The truth is that my personal experience with using EFT for my migraines has shown me that it simply works.

I am lucky enough to have a “visual pattern” warning about 10 minutes before the pain and nausea strike, and I learned to use EFT tapping quickly to keep the migraine from becoming full-blown. If you suffer from migraines, you can address the physical pain using the following example setup and reminder statements. Or use your own specific wording that applies to your headache and emotions at the time. Before you start tapping, estimate the intensity of your headache on a scale from 0 – 10, with zero being no pain, and 10 being the worst you can imagine. Write that number down somewhere for later comparison.

Repeat your setup statements while tapping on the side of the hand:
Even though I have this migraine headache, I accept and forgive myself.
Even though my head is splitting and I feel terrible, I completely accept and forgive myself.
Even though my migraine is so painful, I love, accept, and forgive myself.

Then move through the other tapping points (see the Basic Recipe for the points) with reminder statements such as:
This painful headache. This migraine. This nausea and headache. This awful headache. Feels like a tight band around my head. I feel terrible. I’m so tired of this headache. This painful migraine.

After one or more rounds of tapping, take a slow, calming breath or two. Now estimate the intensity level of your pain again. Write that down next to your original number. Hopefully, the number has gone down significantly, but if not, continue tapping to reduce the intensity level even more. If the number is not going down after repeated rounds, maybe it’s not just a physical issue. Maybe it’s time to look at possible emotional causes.

You might have an idea of what brought on your migraine, such as a very stressful work situation, a recent family argument, or some other traumatic event. You can then tap specifically about that situation. “Even though work is really stressful for me right now, I completely accept myself.

But what if you don’t have a single clue about what emotions might be behind this thumper of a headache? Easy enough: “Even though I don’t know why I have this migraine, I accept and forgive myself.” EFT is amazing like that. By tapping on the “I don’t know” statements, we usually experience memories or insights that lead us directly to the source of our emotional disturbance. And then we tap on that. Like the layers of an onion, we slowly peel away until we’ve discovered the core issue(s) that can be neutralized one at a time using EFT.
