Yes, but…

EFT Tapping is a wonderful tool for uncovering our “Yes, but…” thoughts and responses. What’s a “Yes, but…”? Glad you asked!

Have you ever wondered why you just can’t break a salary ceiling, or can’t take that next step to start writing or painting? Wondered why the weight you lose keeps coming back? Wondered why you can never find Mr. or Miss Right?

From EFT Founder Gary Craig: “the events in our lives create our beliefs about the world, and those beliefs can either pose limits or open new possibilities.” Gary referred to these beliefs as “The Writing on Our Walls.” The words on our walls represent our self-talk, which represents and reflects everything we’ve learned from well-meaning (or not) authority figures throughout our lives: parents, grandparents, siblings, teachers, peers, rock stars, actors and actresses…the list goes on and on. These words may or may not be true, but we have engraved them into our brains so that we don’t question them. These are our core beliefs.

Our core beliefs may have even served us at some point in life, but they can limit our forward progress, keeping us stuck. These are our “Yes, but…” thoughts that play in our minds after we state we can do something or are open to something. We might say or think “I’m going to apply for that great job! It’s perfect for me.” And then the writing on our walls reminds us “Oh I’m sure there are others more qualified than me. I’ll never get it anyway.” And so what happens? We may not even bother to apply for it, which then reinforces the writing on our walls that says “You’ll never get a good job.”

We’ve repeated our ‘fictional list of limits’ silently or aloud so many times we don’t even realize we’re doing it. It’s our truth. So, learning to listen for our “Yes, buts” is a great first step in letting them go. EFT Tapping can help us erase and replace the writing on our walls with more positive, hopeful, and encouraging words. Tapping helps us realize ‘that was then, this is now.’ Tapping can help us uncover and neutralize those old limiting words and beliefs so we can move forward.

Sometimes in the process, we uncover an emotionally charged event that may have put those words on our walls. If at any point you feel an issue or event is too big for you to continue working on alone, you can ‘sneak away’ from the memory or emotion by tapping and saying that even though you feel this strong emotion, you’ll come back to it soon with help. Consult with a certified EFT Practitioner or other professional before moving forward on a traumatic event or issue so that you can safely neutralize the negative emotions and unblock the stuck energy.

You are an amazing person with unlimited potential. Really, you are an amazing person with unlimited potential. What “Yes, but…” thoughts came up for you? There’s your next tapping topic!
